Practical answers to the questions photographers ask before trying Cull Me uP.
01
A modern RAW Light Table for the first pass — opening RAW folders, picking and rejecting, and rating through the Sort Me uP 5-pass mode. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac with Universal Purchase.
No. Sort Me uP is the 5-pass progressive star rating mode inside Cull Me uP and Cull Me uP Pro. Pick / Reject is step one; Sort Me uP is step two.
The full post-shoot session app. Pro adds ingest, sessions, Quick Compare with synchronized zoom, full metadata editing, batch rename, export, and the Pro Insights reports (Lens Performance Report, Hero Ratio, etc). Pro is iPad and Mac.
No. Nala Assist is what’s next — a planned optional add-on inside Pro for high-volume shoots. The launch products are Cull Me uP and Cull Me uP Pro. Nala will be released after launch, and Pro testers will see it first.
Cull Me uP and Cull Me uP Pro launch across iPhone, iPad and Mac. The private beta is the path to early access. We will only commit to a launch date when it is truly committed.
02
No. Cull Me uP opens the folder directly. There is no catalog, no import queue, no preview build phase. Files stay where they are.
Stars and color labels are written to XMP sidecars that Lightroom, Capture One and DxO can read. Pick / Reject mapping and DxO-aware sidecar behavior are handled carefully where supported and validated.
Cull Me uP is aware of .dop sidecars and reads them alongside XMP, with validated metadata fields. DxO users keep their existing workflow intact.
Yes. Cull Me uP runs on iPhone and iPad as well. Cull Me uP Pro requires iPad or Mac.
03
No. We do not rate your frames. Pro Insights reads your own ratings to show patterns. The eye stays with the photographer.
No. The cull happens locally on your device. Files never leave your folder unless you choose to export them.
Because Nala is not a static tool. The Light Table should be yours. The Pro workflow should be yours. But the assistance layer will keep evolving: better grouping, more camera/lens patterns, improved sequence detection, future AI-assisted workflows, and continuous refinement. That is what the subscription pays for. And because high-volume work is seasonal for many photographers, Nala will be designed to be activated when you need it most.
Cull Me uP and Cull Me uP Pro will continue working — they are perpetual purchases. When Nala is paused, its smart organization becomes unavailable, but your XMP, your sessions, and the Simple Light Table remain.
04
Cull Me uP and Cull Me uP Pro are perpetual purchases at launch. Nala Assist will be a planned optional subscription, with pricing announced closer to its release. Early adopter pricing applies to the first purchase of Cull Me uP and Pro at launch.
Trial and refund details will be confirmed before launch.
Apply on this page. We are looking for photographers who will use the beta seriously — on real shoots, with real RAW files — and tell us where the friction remains.
